A Hack I Learned for Tooling a Leather Pouch with a CO2 Laser Engraver
In this leather craft video I make my possibles pouch with a little tooling trick and help from my Xtool P2 CO2 laser cutting/engraving machine. I'm definitely using this trick for my holsters and knife sheaths from now on! But I'm not throwing away my swivel knife just yet!
Let me know if there's interesst in the pattern for this bag. I may make it available on my Etsy page. This video would serve as the tutorial.

Making a Zip-Around Long Wallet Leather Craft Build!
Переглядів 6 тис.День тому
My wife showed me a Louis Vuitton zipper wallet and asked if I could make her something similar. . . I said "To save $1K, of course!" This was supposed to be a quick leather wallet build ... for my wife's new purse (see previous video). It took way longer than expected! The asks were: It had to have a secure closure (zipper, snaps, etc ... but NOT buckles); be able to fit inside the purse AND e...
Sewing with Sterling Silver: Making a Tooled Leather Knife Sheath
Переглядів 12 тис.Місяць тому
This subscriber-supplied decorative knife gave me the perfect chance to hone a skill that I've been wanting to try: Sewing leather with sterling silver wire! Silver wire is used a lot in jewelry making (though not so much in leather craft), so it's pretty easy to source and not too expensive. I may have to try this technique on a fancy holster or bag at some point. Stamps I used in this video: ...

Sketches to Patterns to Laser Files: Making a Leather Shoulder Holster

As promised, this is my process of turning sketches into mockups and then into files that a laser cutter/engraver can read to cut leather. The project I'm working on is the holster for a shoulder rig for my friend's Beretta Centurion. However, this is the same process I use for knife sheaths, bags, wallets, and basically everything else I cut on the laser. The leather work starts at around the ...

In this leather working video, I craft a holster for a scoped pistol. It's tricky navigating the the scope's mount and rings; and especially on the Ruger with its skinny barrel. @@RoadAgentLeather thank you. I saw that video. And it was very helpful in designing the overall cutting area. I’m an old lady who has tooled leather since the 70’s. The pattern for the tooling is a bit more intricate and I can no longer see well enough to do the cutting. Laser engraving the tooling pattern is what I think would help me.

I’ve long wanted to get a laser to similar projects to what you do but I’ve hesitated because of the learning curve of the software. I think it would also be beneficial to be able to digitize my personal design to share them.

    Your channel and your work is awesome, I have just started my journey with leather and a laser and am curious how you deal with the soot and charing? Do you clean it with the saddle soap? Wouldn't it change the color of the tan of the leather or cause blotches? Beautiful pouch. Thanks for sharing with us all. Greg

    • @RoadAgentLeather
      @RoadAgentLeather 4 дні тому

      Some of it can be mitigated with the laser's settings. Low-power, faster, and multiple passes will char less than trying to slug through with a single, slow, higher-power cut. A lot of the soot can be simply wiped off with a damp sponge. Sanding will remove even more. Melamine foam (Mr. Clean) pads can gently buff off some too. Laser-cut stitching holes can be cleaning out by adding extra length of thread to act as a pre-swab while sewing. But ultimately, there will be some discoloration. Unless I'm dying the leather a light color (or leaving it natural), I don't worry too much about it.
